That's Clyde, we met this nice guy a week ago while fishing with the grandkids in the kids fishin league. Saw him get a little smaller bass near us that nite, then he walked over and give all my kids each a butterfly card, butterfly's that he encases the wings and antennas in plastic & draws in body-really neat. He also gave some extras for kids who were on vacation. Really nice guy.. Wish him a good day if/when you see him @ the lake.....
Rich and Jack.......thx for the kind words for Clyde. I met him thru a friend of mine an I can tell you there is no one with more passion and excitement for fishing! He's just as good on the ice also! Hope to fish with you again soon Clyde......Mike
does it really matter?. he may have released it as he is a shore angler without a live well. the bass population is doing fine, and spawning season is over. it is totally legal to clean and eat. i hope that when im his age that i can still walk the banks and hold up a fish that size. rich
Great fish! I'm with you rich, nothing wrong with eating some bass. I'm all for catch and release but that doesn't mean I don't keep anything. If you've never eaten bass I strongly suggest you do, its very good (as is bluegill, crappie, perch, walleye, pike, catfish... ok I think I make my point). I think sometimes people get so wrapped up in C&R that they forget its not only legal but often necessary for a healthy population to keep a few.
I've worked for years at my family's private pond (about 11 acres) to take bass out b/c we rarely caught anything over about a pound and they were all very skinny. Whether we had an overpopulaiton problem or a food problem, I don't know. What I do know is that last Memorial Day, my cousin caught about a 6 pounder that was very healthy. All the bass I took out, I also ate, so they didn't go to waste. Although bass flesh isn't as good as bluegill, crappie, perch, or walleye, it's not bad.
