Any reports on how the walleyes are doing? Leech or minnow bite? Thinking on going out this Saturday. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

Well, it's going to have to be minnows or night crawlers as I learned on 9-21 when I was out. Despite the fact that much of what you read talks about leeches right now (i.e. fishing reports, tips, Jay's CD-ROM,etc) leeches are out of season so you can't even get them. I was shocked when the guy at the bait shop told me but after I thought about it I vaguely remember the same thing happening last year. The lake was like a parking lot Sunday and the weeds are brutal in some of the prime areas. It was a miserable day..we didn't get one single bite and we didn't see anyone else doing much either. I have a question now that we're on the subject - can someone give a little info on what we can expect the Walleye to do in the days and weeks to come? For example as the water cools, where can we expect them to hang out, etc. One more question - I often hear about people getting Walleye in the deep trees and at the dam. My understanding and review of the map shows that those areas are some of the deepest in the lake (40 ft!). So in water that deep do you use the same techniques you would over the rock piles, etc. I usually split shot with a leech/minnow on a small red Walleye hook and basically vertically jig/pop it right off the bottom. So in 40 feet of water are you fishing that far down????????!!!!!! Thanks.

Going to have to rent a boat but the anchor rope won't reach the bottom if they are on 40 feet of water. Hopefully it'll be a slow drift. Going there this Saturday....weather says rain and cold so hopefully the fishing will be good. Will let you know how I did on the walleyes.
