Got out for a couple of hours to try the new topwater musky lure and see if I could find one. Fished most of the first half of the NMZ with no success. I think I'm going to start working the lake near the bait shop, mostly due to water clarity. Even if I had a follow I don't think I'd see it as the NMZ has, at best, 18" of visibility - and the water is stained dark.
Did break out the fly rod and caught a dink crappie. While the skunk is out of the boat he's swimming very close by.
Odd thing though. I was casting one way, heard a splash just behind the boat and saw a thin 24" or so musky doing a backflip through the air. I think they're taunting me. :D
Bunch of people out when I got back to the ramp. The one I talked to said they mostly had small ones.
BTW; the water temp at the surface was about 72. Back up a few degrees from Tuesday.
