dam smallmouths

Smallmouths were biting today by the dam. Actually, I have caught very few (if any) smallies before at Shab, but they can be a bunch of fun...amazing fighters! The best today were a 19" smallmouth that weighed 3 lb. 5 oz. and an 18" that weighed at 3 lb 3 oz. The smallies were caught by casting parallel to the bank, using deep-diving crankbaits and spinners--most successful seemed to be colors that included some gold and red. All of today's fish were released.

Great fishing report! Congrats on that 19"er too. That's about the biggest smallie I've heard about at Shab in some time.

We are looking to establish a lake record Smallmouth, but the minimum length has to be 20". It sounds like you are getting very close. Get a 20+" verified at Lakeside Bait, Tackle & Boat Rental and I will give you $100.

The last 4 years we have set a new lake record each year. This year's is still out there. That $100. in my pocket needs a new home. Why not give it away for a 20+" Smallmouth?
