Sharpen the hooks boys, the September Bite is ON !!
I hit the water when the park opened at 6am. I ran into muskie guide Ron Fulk at the dock and he gave some info on what's been hot lately. I started the day trolling for muskies, but started casting when I saw them surfacing in places that I couldn't troll. The water was pretty murky ( an algae bloom is starting ) with a visibility of about a foot in some places, and the water temp was reading 77 degrees at 6 inches, and schools of 5 inch shad were everywhere.
By 10am I was getting bored and decided to try fishing for cats. Tossed out some chicken livers that had been in the freezer since spring.
About 20 minutes later, Ron came by and reminded me that muskies like the 38 INCHER THAT HE JUST CAUGHT don't really like chicken livers. So that was the end of catfishing. I ended up casting some wind blown trees and Bamm !!! A nice chunky muskie just under 40 inches got in the boat for a picture. The muskies have obviously had a good summer with plenty to eat, this guy was thick !!! I'll be back next week.
Pics of my muskie and Ron's Client's fish are on my website. Click the "Recent Catch" button.
Good Luck Everyone,
Kevin W
