Let’s clarify something here people. The current rules and regulations on Lake Shabbona do not at the present time nor have they at any time prohibited any person or persons from launching their boat in said lake. Is that clear enough for you lawyers? The rules do limit the size of the outboard engine that a person can run in the lake for purposes other than loading and unloading your boat. As far as I know as long as you don’t run any engine larger than ten horse you can launch any size boat you want except a sailboat over 14 feet long. A guideline was set and a rule was made. It is a part of life that some of you just seem to be unable to accept. It is not discrimination.
The lake has been under the same rules concerning this issue since it was opened to the public. This rule has served the lake efficiently for decades until recently when a group of self serving, overbearing individuals decided it was time to change the rule to fit their own personal needs. That alone in my opinion is reason enough to reject the proposed rule change. That is the only argument necessary. It is a matter of principle. You people frightfully remind me of the anti-gun group. You just keep chipping away at an issue little by little until you get things your way.
As for Mr. Walleye Eater (aka. Johnny Cockrin:) I think you should go back and proof read the past posts on this subject. I am sure they must have taught you how to do that in law school to avoid making a fool of yourself by making ignorant statements. To start with the person who posted the pictures of the men who, as you so aptly stated, were “breaking the law”, did not accuse anyone of anything. He simply asked a question. Apparently even you determined from the pictures that a law was being broken.
Golf and Fish. I haven’t overlooked you my friend. Since you and Mr. Walleye Eater are both lawyers perhaps you can get together and proof read the past posts together. Maybe as a team you can get the information correct. I’m confident that if you use some of the common sense you require of everyone else on this board you will determine that there is really no discrimination in the 10 horse rule at all. You did have one valid statement in all of your ramblings however. You stated that “The State has a liability to determine safety standards that need to be adhered to. Limiting certain hunting and/or fishing requirements is part of the requirement.” I couldn’t have stated it better myself. You are absolutely correct. They did just that very thing when they adopted the rules for Lake Shabbona in the beginning. Only since you and your large motor cronies started this whining campaign did they even consider a deviation from that rule. You mentioned a 1 year trial period for you and your friends. The majority of fishermen at Lake Shabbona has made it apparent in a public forum they do not want your trial or any alternate version of it but you can’t seem to accept rejection. In reality this is the second season since this under the table rule change was attempted. We think it should be a dead issue.
Oh and just one more thing before I end this reply to your attempt to keep this issue alive till you get your way. I noticed in your handle that you use for identification on this board that you are quite fond of four letter words. (ie: Golf ,Fish) I thought that was rather ironic since your rhetoric reminds of a joker that was very aggressively trying to get the rules changed in the past so he could use his big motor in Shab. He also was very fond of four letter names. I believe he called himself Babe or something like that.

Very well stated and to the point. Let's also remember that in the ether world we can all be anything that we want to be on these boards & some love to overstate to make their point. FWIW

Tr-22, I never commented that the person posting the pictures made the comment of breaking the law, it was larkin. If you don't like my comments get over it.

How you grouped me with the people trying to change the horse power law is beyond me. I don't care either way.

I'm tired of reading about everyone's strong felt opinions. And one more thing, my dad can beat up your dad!

Taken from post made by Walleye Eater 09/03/2003. 5:32pm

And I quote:
"This is my last reply to this topic. I do have better things to do. Posting of other peoples images or photographs thereof is not illegal. What you did not read correctly in my post was that to post someones image or photograph and then acuse them of doing something ILLEGAL leaves yourself liable to a lawsuit. There is this little word in the dictionary called "slander". I suggest you read about it."

I may be wrong but the way I read this you are stating that the person who posted the pictures is accusing the subjects in the picture of some wrong doing.
I believe slander has something to do with making statements that are untrue. Does it not?

Shabby also has pictures of boaters breaking the law at Rock Cut State Park where the limit rule was modified. The point of posting the pictures is not to accuse anyone. It is to bring it to the public's attention that the laws are not being enforced.

Just for the record:
Are you threatening my Dad?

I hesitate to reply to posts from guys like you and "Golf and Fish" for the obvious reasons. Only when I think that someone may actually be believing your baloney do I do so. Unfortunately if people hear what they want to hear they don't care if it is the truth or not. That is what makes people like you dangerous to the well being of a wonderful place like Shabbona Lake.

I'm dangerous to the well being of Shabbona?

I helped drag brush & boulders out for habitat improvements 2 times. I buy bait at Denny's every time I come out. I buy gas at the local stations (ok, that's only because it is cheaper than by my house). I take my son's scout troop here every July 4th weekend to fish, hike and pick up trash.

How dare you pass judgement on me.

It's assholes like you that don't appreciate people who donate their time and efforts to help others.

You really need to get over yourself.
