Got out at 6:00am to a beautiful foggy/breezy lake as the sun was about to come up over the trees. I had high hopes with the conditions and all (fair weather, 71 degree water temps, slight chop on the water, 2-4' visibility/clarity depending on the area and very few people on the water) but my hopes were dashed by noontime. I was fishing all over but didn't even have a follow except the 12" smallmouth I caught on a 8" crankbait! I was throwing bucktails, crankbaits, jerkbaits and huge spinnerbaits but nothing. However, I think that my "tennis-elbow" is now "musky-elbow". OUCH! Still, it was great to start the day on the lake.

Larkin-

Just an idea - but this is the time of year to be throwing topwater baits. The conditions you described would have been perfect for a topraider or top prey.
I'm not saying you would have had any better luck if you'd made some casts with topwater.
Next time out give top a try .... !

Good Luck
