My son and I were bank fishing in the PM yesterday. There was a dead bass, about 12" in length that was floating on its side in the water, out about 2 feet from the bank along the dam. He had been floating there since we came along, maybe a half hour or so before. All of a sudden, there was a good size SPLASH and the bass was gone in an instant. Now, I have seen snapping turtles eat fish before, but they are usually more subtle. What kind of thing in the water would have taken this dead fish under like that and made it disappear in this way?? Oh, by the way, we did catch a couple of bass ourselves, one 12", one 15 1/2 ", as well as a 13" walleye and a couple small crappies later on, all on Mepps spinners, black with yellow spots on the blades. Your insights on the disappearing bass are appreciated!

Let's see, muskie snacks are in the neighborhood of 1/3 of their body length (also known to be even more aggressive at times) leaving the best guess as a 36" or larger muskie. Where was your Mepps Maribou??? ;-)

Research has shown that a leading cause of disappearing bass is due to a little known disease called "Iswimawayenafindaplacetohidefromalltheboattraffic" syndrome.:D

Almost certainly a muskie, but unfortunately not the BIG dead one I saw near the shoreline in the bay just south of the Restaurant/Visitor Center back on August 19. Anyone else happen to see that poor boy? I'm hoping he wasn't the one caught on August 9th and posted w/ a picture here, but the dates have me thinking it probably was. . . Not trying to be a pessimist... just a realist...
