Have not been out for a few weeks, tougher now that my daughter is back from camp and school is starting back up.

My wife and I arrived around 3:30 PM with a light rain falling. Not enough time to rent a boat so we took a shot shore fishing casting towards the no motor zone tree stub.

Noticed two things right off the bat, the first being the water level seemed a bit lower than a few weeks ago and the water temperature seemed warm (even the weeds caught on the retrieves seemed quite warm, especially compared to the colder air).

We caught a few Bluegills quite a ways out, near the deep edges of the weeds. We did see several very decent size fish jump that were more than likely musky based upon the size (located In a line between the no motor zone sign on the tree stub and the bay near the camping area's is where the large fished seemed to be jumping).

After a few hours, we started to get a bit too wet and left around 6:30 with only a few bluegill. I am planning on going out this Friday and may rent a boat to see how some of the deeper spots are producing.

How was the lake traffic when you went?

Looks like the weather really put a damper on what would have normally been a gangbusters long weekend at Shab. The good news is most people just go the next weekend instead, so look for the carry-over fishermen and a larger than average post-labor day crowd.

Thanks for the fishing report!!

The traffic was indeed very light for a weekend, let alone a holiday weekend. There was only a handfull of boats out and plenty of shore space to fish from.

I too was out that day in a rental boat. Not much happening on the musky front. I think I missed 1 fish. We fished from 6:30 am to about noon. The rain prevented us from wanting to fish any longer.

WE did however manage to catch EVERY crib in the lake. We only lost a handful of lures. But we did manage to save a few too with the paint roller technique.

We did not see anybody really doing very well. And since it was pretty chilly, getting rained on was not too fun.

We got out on the lake Monday, about 6:30am after renting a boat from Big Jim's. Caught 2 cats and a 20" walleye right away. After that, it seemed the fish got finicky.... The water was way too warm. Boat traffic wasn't bad at all. The last time we were up there was the July 4th weekend, and also light on the boat traffic.

Most of the people fishing were either tied up to the suncken trees, (it was quite windy) or fishing deep near the damn. As we pulled in for the evening, we saw 1 guy hold up what he claimed to be a 4+ lb largemouth, but in reality looked ~3lbs. No one else seemed to be having much luck. I am heading back there this weekend and next to try my luck again.
