Got on the lake at 6;30 and fished til 12. Water murky and wind picking up near the end. Had one strike that about pulled the rod out of the holder on a jake and had another fish make a huge splash and swirl 8 feet from the boat while trolling. I think it was on the surface sun bathing, and I spooked it. No follows that I could see. But did have a boat pass me three times running his BIG motor to get to the south end,{into the wind) #8592 a SEA NYMPH. Was that anyone on this site?

I friend of mine was at Shabby a couple weekends ago and said that there was these guys with a big boat with an inboard engine and they were driving around using their inboard engine, which wasn't under 10 hp, probably more like 200hp. Hey maybe we need some enforcement. We have rules, are we going to follow them or just ignore them? No, I don't beleive that EVERYONE WITH A BIG MOTOR IS A CRIMINAL, and these guys weren't speeding all over the lake with their motors. But a rule is a rule, period! And it really isn't fair for the guys with the big bass boats who use their electrics all day, when guys like this are breaking the rules in plain day light!

What's wrong with this picture???
Shabby

What about this one, anything wrong here???
Lets see..........
Could they put another rod holder on there?? (No it's not a crime!!! - but come on!!)
Nice trolling and/or kicker motor........NOT!!!
Just goes to show.
Nice work detective Shabby.
Did anyone inform these two of the standing reg?

They weren't speaking English, so I figured it wouldn't do any good. Besides, I'm not saying anything to anybody, we need all the pictures we can get! I wanted to walk down to pier 5 and see how many poles they had set out but my wife and 7 year old wanted to leave. I couldn't see them from any of the parking lots??? All those rod holders might not be against the law, but filling them all with just two guys in the boat would be!

TimK:
oh yeah someone told them: The plain-as-day sign that they disregarded while they entered the park AND launched the boat.
I'd wait for the humorous picture of the CPO writing them a ticket as they try to explain that they thought Shabbona was no-wake lake, or that they can't read, or that they are blind, or that...
...But I know that no such picture will ever develop because there is virtually no enforcement on this lake!
Thus, I beat the same dead horse again so that various kinds of law breakers can once again be assured that their misdeeds can be safely commited at our favorite lake.
Shabby, thanks! Because a picture is worth a thousand words! And that was my last on this subject on this site.

At least nobody was bellyaching that they were prepping the boat on the ramp or so it appeared. Just consistent with this type I guess. Too bad you protected the ID's Shabby but then again we know the Lord protects the innocent so we must protect the guilty. I was out Sunday morning & while it was warm it seemed as though the crowd was light for a weekend. It could be that a lot of people are tired of the crowds, the rudeness and the lack of law enforcement. I did see a number of the regular types and only one guy running his big motor (this a little later in the day when the wind got wicked). I hope we get a glimpse of a CPO or two this weekend if they're not tied up at Starved Rock. For the record & JMHO this enforcement problem is not just at Shabbonna. These guys are so short handed it isn't funny so let's keep that in mind before we beat them up. We need to put the pressure on Springfield to restaff as soon as is practical. Also remember they don't just find CPO's wandering the streets, these folks go thru a training period that takes time. We're probably at least 2 yrs away once the process starts. FWIW.
Shabby that boat and trailor is very unusual-Dual wheels- rails around sides-remember it from last year saw it going out with big motor running while out helping with the kids fish Derby one evening.
Problem is even if they were going it slow onlooker see it in the water and we be seeing a lot more slowly going faster.
I'm in agreement a law is a law and if they can afford that type of boat they can afford to purchase a limit size motor
Is that Bluto and Popeye in the boat?

Everyone take a deep breathe and calm down. You guys really have to be bored or nothing better to do than to take pictures of violators? Did the guy plane out on his boat? What real damage did he do? Yes, I understand he did break the LAW. With everyone talking about how to punish this guy it seems many people would like to be junior IDNR officers. Isn't this how the Nazi's got started? Doubt me, but it's exactly how it started. People please repeat violators and just stop. Stop the complaining and get over it. Leave the policing & sentencing to the powers that be.
And the guy at the launch ramp bragging about the big perch that he caught, they were little walleyes. We shouldn't be upset about that either. Also, I've fished several Cook Co. Forest Preserve Lakes, and I have had my fishing license checked a lot. And they were looking at people fishing in boats with binoclulars. My guess is they were looking to see is the boat registrations were up to date and seeing what people were catching/keeping, people wearing pfd's. I didn't feel like the Gestapo was coming down on us fishermen.
The motor in the picture looked old. I keep reading posts about people complaining that their new big motors pollute less than the old little motors on Shabbona. Do those guys in the picture look like people who would tune up their motor every season or do they look like the type of guys who would replace their gas hose if it's dripping in the lake? I bet there was a big oil slick behind that boat.
Having the DNR do random checks at the lake wouldn't be a bad idea.

Seargant Shultz

Hey Shultzie I think you missed the point. The people you had watching you at Cook County Forest Preserve lakes WORKED there! They weren't irate locals. I treasure this fishery as much as the next guy. I do not condone the breaking of laws, nor is it a good idea that we start taking pictures of people and posting them (whether faces & registration are blocked out or not). I hope Denny understands the legal ramifications of posting these images. Did the guy really have his motor running? Was the motor above a 9.9 horse? Was he speeding to aid someone in distress? Be careful what you post & what you imply.

There are no legal ramifications for posting those pictures here. The pictures were taken in public. No consent is needed. Just ask the fine ladies from the 'Girls Gone Wild' series of DVDs.
Better yet, ask their as-of-yet 100% unsuccessful lawyers.

Nxt record holder (wannabe). I just wanted to let you know that you would give yourself more credibility by talking about things that you have knowledge about. This obviously isn't one of them. Please try and focus on fishing and not the law (however I'm not sure of your knowledge here either).
As for the Girls Gone Wild lawsuits never being upheld, just ask Becky Lynn Gritzke of Florida State University how much she enjoys the $5 MILLION she settled for out of court on October 5th, 2002.
Don't insult a man on the knowledge of the field in which he works. After all, you do not see me coming down to the adult theatre and knocking the mop out of your hands do you?

Lake-Link did a smart thing, they kicked off all the people who were arguing about the hp limit. They want to keep it to just fishing reports. Don't blame them.

Bazooka, I gotta agree. People are coming on here beating a dead horse, using debating tactics that do more to discredit themselves than to prove their own point.
Walleye Eater - If you are such the legal expert, how about helping Denny out by pointing to the specific laws he may be breaking, or the specific liabilities he is opening himself up to, instead of simply attempting to scare board administrators into complying with your agenda. Your Girls Gone Wild example did nothing to disprove my point that the owner of that particular company has never lost a verdict. Settling out of court proves neither innocence or guilt. I'm surprised I have to tell a person in the law field a simple fact like that. I guess I can assume that you are a lawyer, as you judge success by how big of an out of court settlement you can mooch a 1/3rd of, as opposed to actually winning a case and vindicating your client.
Again, if you are such the legal expert, how about pointing to some precedents that DIRECTLY parallel the case in point here. Precedents where a board administrator of an informational, non-pornographic forum was successfully sued for not even posting, but allowing to be posted, a series of pictures taken at a PUBLIC location.

No precedent for settling out of court? Good God Man are you insane!
Oh no, thats right O.J. is innocent.
What color is the sky in your world?

I don't think you are getting me here. An out of court settlement isn't a victory! Man, this is getting off track.
Again, why don't you back up your statements and in the process actually contribute to the board by helping Denny & board administrators out by informing everyone about how they are exposing themselves to legal retribution/risk by allowing someone to post pictures?
Until then, I'll stand by my statement that there is absolutely no legal ramifications involved in posting (or allowing) these pictures.
How many pictures are posted in forums just like this on a daily basis? Thousands, if not tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands. I have yet to hear of a single SUCCESSFUL lawsuit coming from something as benign as posting a picture on an informational website...
Oh - and my sky is blue. Cubbie blue to be exact. Helluva comeback today!!!

This is my last reply to this topic. I do have better things to do. Posting of other peoples images or photographs thereof is not illegal. What you did not read correctly in my post was that to post someones image or photograph and then acuse them of doing something ILLEGAL leaves yourself liable to a lawsuit. There is this little word in the dictionary called "slander". I suggest you read about it. If Denny has any concerns I would be happy to talk to him about it. If you, yourself would like to talk about it, I bill at $275 an hour. Good Luck. I would rather spend my free time reading fishing reports that is all. No hard feelings.

I for one would like to know how my 9/24 fishing report ended up be a debate between a wana-be record holder and a over priced wana-be johny cockrin.
I placed this report so other fishermen could maybe get an idea how to start their next fishing trip, not to have someone bring up the report to read remarks about girls gone wild and who may get put in jail, or what is the best motor for this lake.
I will say this, a few years ago I had a farmer in southern IL take a picture of me walking across his front yard and my truck.
Two days latter I was served with papers to come back to court and it cost 3 of us 75 dollars each. A picture goes a long ways, but not on MY report.

I think that the reason that this whole argument has reared it's head again is that these are all the guys who got kicked off of the lake-link fishing reports came back here. Lake-Link got sick of everyone arguing over the hp subject and not posting fishing reports. So they gave them the boot!
Actually, it's been nice and peaceful there now. No accusations of discrimination, jealousy, conspiracy theories, ...

Hey,
Let's kill this freakin' thread already. Me and alot of other chumps are looking for a fishing report from the Bathtub and not only is the "report" date 3 weeks away, but everyone is nitpicking about motors, launching boats, and best way to blow their nose.
Start a new thread if you have something to say, but at least don't let the rest of us waste our time scrolling down 20 posts to find out that someone can't handle taking a leak in the outhouse.
