My fishing buddy and I are looking for a complete trolling motor set-up. We have a 14-foot Jon Boat. We would like a trolling motor, battery and charger. If you have one collecting dust in the garage please send me a message. Thanks. :p

We've got a MotorGuide (extra) with the scissor-mount (for the bow) which I actually like quite a bit better than our newer MinnKota (mount) it's I believe a 37-pound thrust and has the footpedal with long cord so you could drive it from anywhere in the boat. It would NOT include a battery and charger...you'd have to get them on your own. Only problem is it's in my buddy's garage and he took off for Florida today so it'll be the 1st week of April before I could pick it up.
Let me know if your interested.

Sorry I missed your PM the other day. here's the PROBLEM(s) First, it's in my buddy's garage and he's in Florida until the 2nd. Next, I'm not sure how well a BOW-mount motor would work on the boat you're describing and after re-thinking you would probably be better off with a TRANSOM MOUNT. We actually use "2" trolling motor's on our Bass boat when fishing Shabbona and are NOT happy with that set up at all.
The lil 6.5 rental boats FLY past us but we are still trying to figure out a better system.

Make One!

I'd love to see someone try this. If your interested, I'll search for the link I have of a DIY electric motor. Some guy used an old outboard, and took off the top portion leaving the drive shaft sticking up. He then attached a Briggs permanent magnet DC motor directly to the drive shaft. Using a golf cart controller, her wired this up to a couple 12V batteries. I seem to recall that when he used three or four batteries he had a 16ft boat up on plane. Talk about sweet!!

LOL, Rocko- You need a TV show :D Almost every time someone has a problem, your response is usually JUST MAKE ONE. Please don't get me wrong, I happen to think it's great. I often like to fabricate lil thing's to just plain make life easier, besides, it's a blast making something like a bracket out of what's in the garage which work's better than the $79.95 they want for it at Bass Pro LOL. However, we've got a real dilemna here... our 16.5 fiberglass boat (20+ years old) serves us just fine everywhere but SHABBONA, our 'Home Lake' There just plain isn't an easy way to mount a kicker on our older BASS Boat and the TWO TROLLING MOTOR's we use at SHABBONA drain the batteries rather quickly and do NOT get us around very well at all. The little 6.5 rentals FLY past us and IF it's rather WINDY day...OUCH. Surely we are OPEN to and would appreciate any suggestions

I understand.
My problem is, I'm an engineer, so naturally my first thought is "Just make one" or "how could I do that". My boat is only 12ft but yes, I did make it with wood from plans.

Hey Rocko-
Can you engineer a trolling motor?

A standard trolling motor for your boat? Yes, but not for what you could buy one for.
